A Guide to Writing Your Testimony

As you think about your testimony of God’s Grace in your life, this blog is intended to be a guide to help you write it out. 

If you read through the Scriptures, then answer the question, explaining your experience of God’s grace in that area, you’ll have a great first draft. Go back through it a time or two, making it your own, and you’ll be there!

Remember - this is your story of HIS grace in your life, so you want to make the gospel clear as well as explaining how it changed you.

God’s Glory

Psalm 96 – ”Recount His glory among the nations, His wondrous deeds among all the peoples.… For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but Yahweh made the heavens.… Ascribe to Yahweh the glory of His name;”

Ephesians 1:3-14 – In the longest sentence of the Bible, we find a description of what God has done for us in salvation. We see the phrase “to the praise of His glory” repeated three times.

1 Corinthians 10:31 – “Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. “

ANSWER THIS: How did you grow up? What kind of home/environment? How did you first learn of the reality and truth of God as the Creator of all things?

My Sin

Psalm 51:5 – Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me..

Acts 17:30-31 – …God is now commanding men that everyone everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness …

Romans 3:10-12 – “as it is written: None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” 3:22b-23 – ”For there is no distinction: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” 6:23 – ”For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Genesis 6:5 – “The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

Ephesians 2:8-9 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

ANSWER THIS: How did you think before you were saved? How did you come to understand and know that you needed a Savior?

God’s Provision

Romans 5:8 – “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”

1 Peter 3:18 – “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, so that he might bring us to God…”

2 Corinthians 5:21 – “…he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 

1 Corinthians 15:4 – “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”

ANSWER THIS: What were the circumstances surrounding when you first truly repented of your sins and placed your faith in Christ alone for salvation?

My Salvation

Romans 10:9-10 – “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” 

Mark 1:15 – “…repent and believe in the gospel.”

ANSWER THIS: After you were saved, how did your life change? How would you describe the activity of God in your life today?
